They are smaller than day lilies, and often only one to a plant...

It's become an annual trip to upper Twin Lake, which is only a few miles away, but has the floating peat bog and lots of bird habitat.
That said, it was a great foray:

Mama moose with twins. We didn't bother them, and they ignored us... We could have watched for an hour...

We made another trip to Upper Twin Lake, hoping to show a guest the moose, and all I got was a Wilson's snipe....

It reminds me of the days as a boy scout, when we would have snipe hunts in the evening, which just involved running around in the dark. One of them confided to me that there is no such thing as snipes.
I had grown up paging through the Peterson guide book, so I begged to differ...
