I've been reading the collected
works of Wilkie Collins, who wrote at the time of Dickens in England
around 150 years ago. I got them on Kindle for $3.00, and mostly
use them to get sleepy at night, but I have found them very readable,
aside from modes of transportation like broughams etc.
The Moonstone
was made into a Masterpiece Theater series which I never saw, but being
aware of it drew me to the author. It actually consists of 7 or
more books telling the story of the jewel robbery from various points
of view.
I just finished A Rogue's Life, which is a clever
journey from rags to riches of a dishonored noble son, seeking the love
of his life along the way...
