Feb. 7 2018
    The snow is rapidly receding but there's still a foot to go, and the lake has ice thick enough to walk on, but it's filling up so there's a ring of water at the edge, meaning you can only get on the ice from a dock without getting wet...  But the ridge is getting clear of snow and some spring flowers are emerging...  The chickadees are singing their two note mating song...

Feb. 15
We had a reprieve from winter for a week, now it's back with the snow and cold.  Here's the view towards the Mill Pond this morning:

We got 5 inches of snow the day before yesterday, and more is in the forecast...
The snow under the fresh snow is so stiff you can walk on top of it, so Butters and I walked up on the ridge today (that's the ridge in the background). Fresh snow means fresh tracks--lots of deer, raccoon, turkey, and quail in the area, and a few moose...

Feb. 28
The whole month has been snowy and fairly cold, so it didn't get many blog entries.  One good new book though:

Books read and other media of note
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick.  A very entertaining first novel delving into grief and depression in a lighthearted but whole hearted manner, tracing a charm bracelet of a departed spouse...
