December 20, 2023 With
this El Nino year, we're stuck with about 2 inches of snow, neither
melting nor freezing consistently. So the pictures from this
month show some of that:
Goldeneye in a golden glow
Frost growing on piled snow
Ring Necked ducks-2 females and a male The frequent gentle fine rains accumulate on branch tips
The one puddle this morning that was frozen over had grown some nice crystals...
Dec. 31 We
enjoyed a last walk of the year at Farragut Park yesterday. It
was drizzling, but we could see eagles, 7 mountain goats (blurry photos
of both) and a wonderful sunset sneaking in under a gap in the
weather...
With
the lack of snow, this one stood out prominently. Like a lot of
the animals at Farragut, it was well habituated to people.

While
the sunset went on and on, a full rainbow (partial double) was faint in
the opposite direction... A feature of the golden light was that
it made the green trees glow golden such that I was convinced they were
tamaracks in their golden fall color, until we realized the branches
were long needled pines... Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the
golden trees...
