John Sousa asked me about how to set up a small pottery
workshop. This one is in a 10 by 12 foot room.
It adjoins a kiln room, and has a root cellar under it
for clay storage. The only other space needed is to store/display
finished pottery.
My Shimpo wheel is at the bottom center of picture.
Note the area to set boards of pots and bats to left of center.
There is also a blender for mixing jars of engobes and glaze tests, and
a fan to keep cool in summer. Above that are shelves for pottery
making tools, and engobes. Above that is extra storage for 5 gallon
buckets of glaze materials. At the left side are the start of the
shelves, made of two by fours on their sides, which hold the boards of
shelves. If you had to have the kiln in the same room keep it as
far from your wheel as possible (to keep from cooking while working), and
VENT IT! I don't recommend being in the same room with a firing kiln.
