Set of Two DVD's for Intermediate
potters:
I thought about what I'd like to see
in some other potter's video: Lots of hands on how-to advice on how
the potter's pots are made... The tools and techniques that make
that potter's work unique...
I thought that if I were trying to condense my whole
knowledge of throwing into a couple hours, what that would be like.
These videos are what it looks like
to me:
This first DVD has the bulk of my throwing and assembling
demonstrations on it. I describe it for intermediate potters because although
I talk about some basic things, you have to have some experience as a potter
to be able to try the things I'm showing. I think a beginning potter
might either be inspired or put off by the video. It depends on how
you feel about seeing pots thrown in less than a minute... In the
narrative I tell what I'm doing step by step, as well as the reasons for
the things I'm doing. All the pots shown on the cover above are demonstrated
in the video.
The second DVD finishes up with a few shapes, including
assemblages such as the disk vase and teapot. The bulk of this video
is on decorating and glazing techniques. I also had fun making a tongue
in cheeky introduction on a "Day in the Life" of a potter.

Customer comments on the complete
set of DVD's:
Feb. 2008 Brad,
the videos are great - I really appreciate the thought behind them and actually
doing it for others to see. I will watch them over and
over!

August 2006 Shar Sieloff writes: I received your DVD's amazingly
fast and in great shape.
I've watched them over and over
and each time I learn something new.
I'm firing my kiln today and I
am testing some of your glazes on my cone six stoneware.
I have your Magic White from an
article dated October 1999 and it is a tad different than
the one on your web page but very
close. I'm using it over your blue slip and a slip that Jaun Keneko
gave in a demo years ago at the
Univ. of Mi. I can't wait to open the kiln.
Today I threw two french
butter dishes and I can see what you mean about good measurement.
I also threw your collared
vase. You make it look so easy I couldn't wait to try it your way.
I'm making better use of
my tools already, thanks to you.
Your videos are well worth a lot
more than you ask. I have already shared it with several potters.
They too are impressed. Thanks
for so many fresh new ideas.
Customer comments on the 3 beginners
DVD's:
March 2006 I have been watching your DVDs over and over again,
they are unpretentious
yet entertaining and informative (snip). Guillermo

the instructions on the DVD's:
Customer comments on the Two
intermediate DVD's:
Jan. 2006 Thank you Brad. I couldn't wait, and I've
already viewed both videos. I like the way you have incorporated
so many different parts of the process from throwing, trimming, glazing,
etc. I know I'll watch them over and over. Chub (the cat) was
a great addition!! Makes you want to get on the wheel when you watch
the videos. You make it seem SOOO easy. Thanks for sharing
your
talents and skill.

Just wanted to let you know your instructional DVD's are
awesome. First of all I was very impressed with how quickly you sent
my order. Then when I opened the package, I was also very impressed with
how professional looking the covers and DVD's were. But, the main
thing is the contents of the DVD's. As a beginner potter, I have
picked up many valuable tips and ideas from you. I have watched the
instructional video's over and over and continue to learn. I enjoy
your down-to-earth approach and I am very inspired to continue to learn
and grow in my skills. Thank you for your valuable insight and sharing
your knowledge and ideas with us. Also, your website rocks!
Thanks again, Theresa Blak , Virginia
Wanted to let you know that the videos arrived safely
and how much I enjoyed them. I've watched them several times and have picked
up many useful tips that will help me in my throwing and exploring new
designs. Since I am mostly self taught, it is interesting and informative
to watch and listen to a professional potter as they explain their methods
and techniques. I appreciate your straightfoward, down to earth approach
and the quality of the video is excellent. Everything is clearly and efficiently
shown and described as you demonstrate. I would highly recommend these
videos to anyone interested in becoming a better potter. Thanks for sharing
with us.

I received the video's on Saturday and all I can say is..GREAT!!!!
I've enjoy not only the humor, scenery(nice winter photo's)
but most of all your style in making clay items. I have watched the Dvd's
at least 5 times. Your style is great. You make it look so easy and I am
sure that after all the years you have been doing it,it now comes easy.
I have been working on the wheel for about 1 year and enjoy it so much.
Of all the tapes and Dvd's I have I have to say that all offer information
in making one a better potter. Yours does stand out in front of all those
I do own. The humor and photography that you added to your pottery instructions
makes you one of the best instructors I've watched. If I were asked
what would be as good as these Dvd's I would say not much but I will say
that I would buy more of your Dvd's if you ever make anymore. I think a
basic beginner Dvd would be great. You center your lumpy distorted clay
while others teach you that you need to get your clay cone shaped before
placing it on the wheel to center. You defied the method I 've seen taught
on tapes and love it. Would love to see a video for beginners from you...I
might relearn to throw on a wheel and that would not bother me....Enough
said...thanks for the knowledge you have shared with all those that have
bought your Dvd. May God bless you and your family...thanks...Jim
Just a note to let you know that I loved your DVD
s. You make making pots look sooooo easy. Your instructions
are very easy to follow and you have such a down to earth manner.
Do you teach classes. I think you'd make a great instructor.
The editing was great and I loved the music. I'm glad you put your cats
in it too.
Thank you for making a great video, Sandi
Fanning
Thanks, ironically, I don't teach--my workshop is too
small to accommodate it, and it's not really what I prefer to do, which
is making pots.
I ordered your pottery DVD's a few weeks
ago and just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed watching them
and picking up tips from your methods. I'm new to potting and it
always helps to see another approach or technique for making something...
Thank you so much for sharing your skills with the rest of us!
Take care, Teresa Wooden ,Wisconsin
Thank you for shipping the DVD's so quickly. I
reviewed both videos and found them to be very helpful, both from how specific
shapes are approached as well as your technique and the tools used.
I am relatively new to this
craft and am working on a kick wheel. Everything
from how soft the clay is to the viscosity of your glazes is of interest
to me as I am struggling at times with some of the basics. So even
though your videos do not go into specific explanation of what most people
may already know from experience, I still found it possible to get a feel
for what I am doing right/wrong from viewing your videos in detail.

Just wanted to let you know that I received your DVD's
today and was overwhelmed!!!! I dropped everything and put
them in the machine and watched (dinner was even delayed so I could finish
viewing them both). They are terrific....so much
information along with great tips and ideas, and you make it look so easy!
. These are such a welcome addition to my pottery library,
and I know that I'll view them over and over again. Thanks so much
for producing such a quality product. Only one word describes
them - awesome!
Thanks for Today!
Jan
My DVDs
arrived safely. They are great! Thank you! Gaye S.
I enjoyed both
of your videos and will get good use from them. Although I am an
experienced potter, I have not done a lot of production work so I will
be able to make good use of the information. All instruction was
clear and the video quality was excellent. They are well worth the money.

The DVD is very
good; Really down to earth and no-nonsense - kind of like you and your
pots. I've read everything on your site. I also have the
article on Ceramic
Monthly on glazing. It's so much better to see everything in action. I
also like the fact that they are production potters' tips,
especially the
glazing part. In college, they are rubbish in teaching glazing in an effective
way.
The music, the
slides shows / intro and kitty are nice touches and I enjoyed them very
much. Well done.
I've never bought
any pottery video before, so I can't make any comparisons. I know for sure
I'll be using it alot. No doubt it's good value for money, even without
the exchange rate. [It's about 6 pints of beer in London]
